Just wanted to remind everyone that Thursday morning Bible study will be meeting at Plainwell Assembly of God tomorrow and (this is a new development) next week as well.
The man who is going to be working at our church had a death in the family so everything has been postponed until this Monday. Soooo, we'll be at our old stompin' grounds for 2 weeks instead of 1! :)
On a totally different note, I'm posting my mom's Never-Fail Pie Crust recipe. I'm hoping that this will get me motivated to make my daughter a pumpkin pie since she has been craving one for about a week now. Baking is not something I really enjoy but this recipe really does live up to its name. Just don't ask me how to make the thing look pretty - crust artistry is not a gift that I possess!
Mix 1 cup vegetable oil (Criscoe works best), 1 tsp salt, and 1/2 cup boiling water. Add 3 cups flour and 1/2 tsp baking powder. Stir after all ingredients are together and only until mixed.
Put two pieces of waxed paper on counter. Divide dough and place in middle of waxed paper. Place 2 more pieces of waxed paper on top. Press down dough and roll with rolling pin til size you want. Peel off top 2 pieces of paper. Turn over and place in pie pan. Peel off. Don't worry about holes - just patch.
Bake at 425 degrees for 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Recipe makes 1 9" double crust and 1 10" single crust. If you're baking the crust without filling be sure to poke holes in the bottom and sides with a fork. If you're going to bake the crust with the filling sprinkle some flour and sugar in the bottom before adding the filling. It will keep the crust from getting mushy. That's a Grandma Smith trick that works beautifully. :)
Happy baking,

Thank You for the recipe. Im going to make apple pie today, and Im searching for a goooood pie crust recipe. Thats percect timing:) Now hopefully I can get it to turn out:)
See you all tomorrow! Have a Blessed day.
I think pies are my nemesis. And there is just no way I can make them look pretty.
My solution is just to have Matt make my crust for me. He makes enough that we use a whole bag of flour and a big container of Crisco. Then we freeze them.
Matt is with Hanna on the whole pumpkin pie thing. On the 1st day of Fall Matt thought it would be a great idea to make a pumpkin pie to calibrate it. I said sorry I have not time or any crust. He still need to make some so I can make him a pie.
I can attest to the fact that this is truly the best pie crust I've ever had!
Leigh...I think you should wait to make the pie until I get there!!! And I think you should get Crista's pecan pie recipe and make that so we can have early T'giving!! :D
Jill
